I was 23, a single mother living in Southern California. Life was hard and money was tight, but hey, when you are 23 you don't really care. You work all week and play all weekend. This was my life in 1998. I found myself living with my Aunt and Uncle - cousins too. My daughter was 3 and we were just surviving. One afternoon my cousin Megan and I hopped onto AOL (we just got the computer and just discovered chat rooms!) to see who was chatting. We went in and out of the chat rooms - scanning the profiles of random people. It was amazing to see people from all over the US, fun to look at the screen names and each person's likes and dislikes....it was like seeing into someones life - just for a moment.
Megan and I spent hours just "surfing". She got bored and walked away so I got the computer all to myself. I went into the "Just Friends" room and scanned the right hand side of the screen. Looking at all the screen names associated with those who were in this room chatting.
This is the moment when my WHOLE life changed.
I spotted EX99IDE and clicked on the name. Up popped a profile for Jon Dailey. He lived in New Hampshire, was 21, in Art school, loved the movie Titanic - he wrote "I saw it 3 times in the movies and cried every time."
I thought - oh cool - a guy who really liked this movie and actually said that he cried when he saw it. That doesn't happen every day!
I hit the Instant message button and sent a simple "Hello- I love the movie Titanic too". Thus started the most important and powerful relationship in my life.
I just found my soul-mate, my best friend and the love of my life. I just didn't know it yet!
Hi Melissa, welcome to the blogging fraternity. I'm still very new to blogging believe you me. I believe you've got an interesting story to tell. He may have gone but he lives on through you. By the way, you're missing an 'r' in Courage of your title. All the best.
